Friday, September 16, 2022, Subscribers-Only Podcast:
Covering recent news and analysis for our portfolio companies and other topics relevant to value/contrarian investors.
Today’s podcast is about 10 minutes and covers:
- Comments on other recommended companies:
- Shell plc (SHEL) – announced the new CEO, who at first look is a good choice.
- Western Digital (WDC) – said near-term industry conditions are weakening and that the company won’t generate positive free cash flow this year.
- General Electric (GE) – announced the board for GE Healthcare and a related December 8 investor conference.
- Elanco Animal Health (ELAN) – hedge fund Sachem Head raised its stake.
- Wells Fargo & Company (WFC) – settled claims with Dept. of Labor, another step toward resolving their regulatory problems.
- Warner Bros Discovery (WBD) – reiterated their streaming service profit outlook.
- Western Union (WU) – completed a small but interesting acquisition in Brazil.
- Elsewhere in the markets:
- Risk management question: while a 5% yield on the 10-year Treasury bond is in range, is an 8.5% yield also a possibility?
- Another risk management question: what happens next in Ukraine and Russia?
- Useful counterpoint to the dour interest rate outlook.
- Final note
- Travels to Washington D.C. for baseball and colleges.
